About Vunet Systems
VuNet's Business-Centric Observability platform, vuSmartMaps, seamlessly links IT performance to business metrics and business journey performance. It empowers SRE and IT Ops teams to improve service success rates and transaction response times while providing business teams with critical, real-time insights. With large financial services, VuNet’s platform is used for digital transaction monitoring and observability to help improve success rates and user experience and accelerate the digital adoption of various services, from payments to lending.
Challenge
Users faced a daunting onboarding experience to install vuSmartMaps, marked by an extensive and intricate sequence of actions required to deploy the software on-site. This process encompassed downloading the software onto an on-premise system and configuring network connectivity ports, demanding a substantial investment of time, people and effort.
The cumbersome procedure resulted in the dependency on VuNet’s internal teams to coordinate and configure vuSmartMaps’s installation and deployment for enterprise needs.
The entire procedure spanned 2-3 days, entailing several steps. The goal was to reduce this to 30 minutes and streamline the process.
The user would have to make several data entries to configure their installation. These data entries would vary based on the installation environment the users choose.
The users also had to be notified instantly of errors and provided with error recovery suggestions.
An internal design system and constraints were followed whilst designing the vuLauncher application.
Process
The engineering team, product heads and Abhinav collaborated closely to dissect and deeply understand the issue. After multiple interactions and iterations, the team gained a nuanced understanding of the product’s role within the enterprise sector and its interaction with users. This deep dive into the enterprise ecosystem and product dynamics informed our approach moving forward.
The team explored existing designs in depth of products in the consumer and B2B space.
The design extensively focused on streamlining the onboarding experience by optimising user flow, minimising clicks, simplifying the interface and enhancing error recovery.
VuNet’s internal design system was used to create the screens, and alongside it, modifications were made based on the design requirements.
The teams closely worked on mapping out the user data entries at different stages of the onboarding workflow, resulting in coming up with suitable UI solutions to make the interaction user-friendly.
Upon several iterations information preview and error recovery designs were schemed. This was achieved by having a right-side panel to preview the detailed information.
Conclusion
VuNet Systems' vuLauncher application was developed to address the complex process of installing vuSmartMaps. The onboarding experience was previously daunting for users, requiring a significant investment of time and effort. To simplify the process, the engineering team collaborated with product heads and Abhinav to conduct a deep dive into the issue. The team designed a user-friendly onboarding experience that streamlined the process by optimizing user flow, minimizing clicks, simplifying the interface, and enhancing error recovery.
Contribution
All the screens were designed by Abhinav in Figma. He worked closely with the product heads and engineering team.
